The First Playing Gods Tournament (and ghost porn)

Sunday August 24:

Woke up by an early phone call from my friend DJ Grothe, who does the
Point of Inquiry podcast. By telephone I recorded four short segments
relating to the board game, breaking in between segments to sip English
Breakfast tea. The pieces will run every other week for a while, through
October. I had the first official PG tournament on Saturday at a local
comic book store; the turnout was low (about 5 or 6 people, including some
invited friends), but then again I guess I didn't really expect the place
to be mobbed….

I'm behind in preparing for my talks at the conference, I've been so busy
worrying about the game that other things have fallen by the wayside. I've
done most of the talks before (psychic detectives, lake monsters, and
ghosts), so I'm not exactly starting from scratch, but I like to add stuff
to talks, and incorporate new material. For example, this year when I
discuss ghost photos, I will include a sideline on ghost porn—that is,
mysterious, ghostly images that appear in homemade porn. I got a few
examples from the Web (and sent to me), but I had to take them to
Walgreens to get hard copies developed. Because there are rules and laws
about developing dirty photos, I explained to the clerk behind the counter
that while the photos I just submitted for processing may originally have
been X-rated, I did my best to block out the hardcore parts (leaving the
ghostly parts), so please print them so I can use them in my talk. She
looked at me oddly, but I told her it was all very scientific, so she
happily agreed.

Oh, and I finally realized that I can stop worrying about the Expansion
Packaging, at least for now. The reason is that I won't even have the
Expansion Packs until the full shipment in September. I won't have any to
sell at D*C, thus no need to sweat about getting envelopes ready on time.
